about ketherabout kether

Kether is a dark electronc/experimental band from Minneapolis, MN.  We started out (originally consisting of brothers Jason and Shawn Woyak) in 1997 as "genome" using the Freeware softstudio Jeskola Buzz, and played a number of well-recieved shows around the twin cities area (most famously at the now defunct "Bon Appetite" in Dinkytown).  We played with such bands as Fadladder, A:POD, Little Tin Box, Obscene Animal Enclosure and more.  After two years or so, Shawn became busy with his family and Jason joined Fadladder as their keyboard player.  After playing with Fadladder for the better part of a year, Jason moved on and was recruited into his from Tom Burt's hardcore band Good Morning.  He played with Good Morning for two years, in the meantime also working on his solo project 17hex and still doing his Genome project spare time.

After Good Morning disbanded, Jason started working on his Genome project again as his main musical output (as well as doing a few live performances as 17hex), and began working on the music that would become the Reality EP.  Along the way he switched from Buzz to Ableton Live and reworked all the music with an eye toward producing an album.   A year later, the Reality EP was mostly finished.  It would be several more months before anything happened on this project, as Jason had a daughter born in the meantime.

Around this same time, for a variety of reasons, we changed our name to Kether.  Also around this time, Jason enlisted the two friends who helped make the Reality EP as his full time band members.  They are Tom Burt (a friend who he played with in Good Morning and currently plays guitar in In Defence) and Dave Eckblad (a friend who he lived with and has collaborated with on much electronic music in the past) on keyboards.  In early 2008, the Reality EP was released and the three of us began working on retooling some of the material for live performance, as well as producing much new material.  So far this has been a very productive arrangement, as the three of us bring very different backgrounds to the studio but share a common voice and vision for their music.  What happens next remains to be seen...
